This Opera Will Help You Play Smoother. 🎸

Hey everyone!

We've got another video up on Level Up Your Guitar on YouTube.

You can watch here...

https://youtu.be/q16o-XyHBW4

This video is a melody from the opera Carmen by George Bizet.

Why did I choose a vocal aria?

Well there are two reasons...

1. It's a chromatic scale (a scale where you play every fret in a row)

So you get to use ALL four fingers.

This is great early on as it gives you a chance to gain strength in your third and fourth fingers.

2. Playing in Positions.

This is HUGE. And I MEAN it.

Playing in a position is where you have four different frets to play.

Since we are using ALL four fingers, you can ASSIGN each finger to one fret.

Think of it like your finger is a person and each fret is an apartment. No one goes to a different apartment unless they are specifically invited.

Understanding this and seeing this pattern quickly will make you play FASTER and SMOOTHER.

This maybe the MOST important technique to understand and get right.

It's great for learning a repetitive idea with slight variations. You'll see this A LOT in music.

Also...

Stick to the end for a little challenge.

When you GET it down. Post an Instagram Story of you playing it and tag me. I'll watch, and give feedback if you need it!
